Welsh Castle For Sale

Distinguished, decadent and discerningly different. Welcome to Castell Gyrn. Congratulations on discovering Wales' not-so hidden gem, where reality is about to exceed expectation.Blissfully set, tucked into the Hillside overlooking the Vale of Clwyd, you fall in love with Castell Gyrn as soon as you pull through the sturdy iron and granite gates and up the sweeping drive, away from the rat race. This feel of exuberance is established in eccentric style as a fire-breathing, hand-carved dragon heralds your arrival home in a roaring nod to Welsh heritage.

TOUR THE CASTLE HERE

Imagination amply fuelled? Allow us to introduce you more personally to this captivating home…As the verdant slopes drop away to either side, you arrive at your destination. Tuck your car away in one of three secure garages before stepping out onto the approach to your own fortress of solitude. The only sound you'll hear is the soft crunch of gravel beneath your feet. Take a moment to soak in your lush surroundings.Push open the robust oak door and step forward with us onto the authentic stone floor of this alluring antechamber, where a watchful knight at arms, tucked back in a recess, breathes life into your medieval fantasies of castle life. Primordial meets neoteric in your first glimpses of Castell Gyrn.

Slip to your left, under an imposing archway and shake off your outdoor garments in the cloakroom, a space crafted painstakingly out of the hillside by hand – a modern achievement accomplished through traditional methods - with echoes of the antiquity that simply resonates throughout this contemporary citadel.

Freshen up in the quirkiest of washroom, where ornate mirrors and traditional wooden surrounds are counterbalanced delightfully by box-fresh gadgets that add a little more convenience to your convenience. We won't spoil the surprise, suffice to say that though this may be one of the smallest rooms in the estate, its idiosyncrasies make it one of our - and the current owner's - favourite rooms.

Steal a glance up at the enticing returning staircase as we head towards the first welcoming reception room.

Allow your guests or business associates the opportunity to pause a while and unencumber their feet by sinking down into an inviting leather armchair, stretch out by the ornate wooden fireplace and spend a few mindful moments observing the Clown fish and the Tangs flit about amongst the undulating corals of your aquarium. A perfect space to meet and greet; modestly grand yet charmingly cosy.

Time to venture onwards. Drop down the two steps into the show stopping, oak-panelled dining room. Designed with decadence in mind, right down to the open fireplace and candelabra light fittings. This hub of the home conjures visions of medieval banquets, three-bird roasts and family Christmas feasts straight out of a Dickens novel.

You could be forgiven for thinking you have stepped back in time to the age of heroes, yet to the discerning palate there are modern luxuriances sprinkled throughout this entrancing home. Note the underfloor heating, ensuring that even when winter is coming outside you can stay toasty indoors behind your protective castle walls. Listen carefully, as your favourite after dinner music pipes surreptitiously down from the hidden speakers in the ceiling.

Follow your nose and trace the source of those delicious piquant aromas to the neighbouring room. Light pours in from both aspects of this effortlessly stylish, gleaming and abundant dining kitchen. Breathtaking views over the Welsh hillside rarely escape you in any room of this country chic hideaway, but here in the kitchen you really feel that you're out in it: in the words of the current owner, you've always got the views.

Look closer, this may appear at first glance to be a bucolic country kitchen, right down to the picture postcard views, but it also shares all the convenience of modernity. Cast your hungry eyes over the inbuilt security screen above the delightfully classic oven, note the handy butler's pantry and utility rooms tucked discreetly away allowing your kitchen to stay free from clutter at all times. There is even a handy store room, complete with underfloor heating; the potential for use here is multitudinous.

Crossing through a further set of French doors, you find yourself in another splendidly fitted reception room. While the sumptuous fireplace beckons you to reach for a book off the shelf and settle back for toasty evenings, resist the soporific charms of this snug space as we continue through to the drawing room.

Of course no castle is complete without its secreted rooms, so step through with us to the cinema room. Gadgets galore make this the ultimate hidden chamber. Enjoy hours of peace as the youngsters battle it out on games machines, or pull out the popcorn and hunker down for a romantic date night without even needing to leave your home. Every night can be a red-carpet premiere as the screen drops down and the lights dim in this smart and swanky hideaway.

Time to explore the sleeping arrangements in this quintessentially quirky castle. Nestled behind the dining room and accessed from the homely sitting room without, you find an amply-sized guest bedroom. Older relatives can enjoy all the opulence of the castle and its mesmeric views without the need to venture upstairs. Step through into the ensuite shower room. Made with treated wood of German design that doesn't warp, turn on the taps and soak up the steam. Breathe deep for an almost Nordic spa style experience. Heaven.

Follow us back to the striking returning staircase, light teems in through the window and from the shining chandeliers above, as a watchful stag mounted on the wall approves your ascension to the first floor of this beguiling build.

Welcome to your opulent living room. To your left is the pièce de résistance, a round-arched window that opens out to a balcony overlooking the expansive grounds of the castle. Take a moment to look out over your own Eden. From here you can see the surrounding fells of the majestic Clywydian Range.

Castle life isn't all play and no work, but fortunately your neat and discreet office also overlooks the splendour of your grounds, enabling you to conduct your business affairs in the midst of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

When it's time to turn off the laptop, step out the office door and to your right. It's time to explore your inner sanctum: the master suite.

Let your feet sink into the plush, lavish carpet and marvel at the deluxe wallpaper. Take the weight off your feet in the restful window seat. This cavernous space makes no compromise on home comforts, from custom built-in wardrobes through to the dressing room into the expansive main bedroom, where a four-poster behemoth bed invites you to recumbence in cleverly curated style. Catch up on your favourite programmes at the touch of a button as a cleverly hidden television arises from within the thick oak frame of your bed. Yet another enrapturing technological perk of the 21st century finds its way into this old-world castle home.

Wash away the day's cares in your palatial bathroom, feel the light warm you from the stone surrounded windows that stipple the intricately decorated walls. Pour the bubbles as the water pervades the tub and admire the exquisite marble finishing to the surfaces of this gleamingly pristine room of relaxation.

Retrace your steps back to the living room, it's time to uncover another castle secret: the tower. To the right of the stately granite fireplace you discover a discreet door. Open it, and climb the hidden, wending roped-staircase to the handsome, handcrafted oak double bedroom. This king-size bedroom oozes sophistication and grown up glamour and is, quite simply, our favourite bedroom in the house.

Family and friends will be squabbling over who gets to spend the night here, with its magical, princess in the tower appeal. Your visitors will feel utterly spoiled in their own secluded keep as they prepare for dinner at the regal oak dressing table, a part of the hand crafted furniture designed specifically for this room.

Send your 'tower guests' off for an afternoon's adventure, strolling around the 47 acres of glorious grounds, where they can capture the delights of Shell House, the carved faces of Idris Williams and co, and an intricate giant eagle carved from the stump of a 200 year tree lost to a gale. Upon their return, they can freshen up in the stately ensuite and pick a suitable outfit from the accompanying dressing room ready for an evening's entertainment of regaling you with tales of their exploits.

Follow us one flight further, as we continue upward to the third floor, where two more delectable guest rooms eagerly await your presence. Children will delight in sharing the twin room with its own ensuite on the uppermost level of this enchanted tower. The enthralling double room is so agreeable, with its dual aspect views to both the picturesque pond and the wild Welsh mountains.

Of course there is no shortage of space for guests at Castell Gyrn. In addition to the six bedrooms within the castle, a guest lodge sits alluringly next door, while Panorama, a palladian two bedroomed self-contained cottage, stands on the crest of the hill offering resplendent views of the valley.

Those with a head for heights will be thrilled at what awaits above. At the push of a button, a retractable roof recedes to a window of pure blue skies. You have arrived at the heavenly roof terrace, surely the most breathtaking spot in the castle. Gaze out to the distant sea, where the eagle eyed can spot the wind turbines standing like guards on the horizon. On a clear day, observe the splendour of Snowdon, Wales' highest mountain.

With so much to explore at your fingertips, the temptation to remain stationed within your bountiful boundaries may be tempting, but allow us to entice you out and about to discover the allure of your locality.

After a hard day's work being a castellan, why not shrug off the title and head to The Druid Inn, a traditional tavern in Llanferres, which radiates a warm welcome and a fine selection of lagers and ales, alongside homely pub grub.

The nearby market town of Ruthin boasts several restaurants of good reputation, with every amenity necessary including an excellent butchers and a handy Tescos.

After an evening sampling the local delights, or an afternoon meandering through the sleepy hillside pastures, pull back up through your private gated entrance, past your conflagrating dragon and settle down for the night, overseeing your kingdom from above.
