In fact, they are a lot more commonplace than quality sites to find them. Orlando and the surrounding area actually have quite a few communities for those over 55. There are even communities that rent exclusively to those 55 and older.
People choose these communities for a variety of reasons. There are far too many to do that detailed analysis here. What we focus on at Wendy Morris Realty is assisting you in finding the perfect one that will fit your individual want or need. You matter, what you want matters, having you as a satisfied client matters to us.
Local knowledge of an area is key. It is unfortunate that in the 21st century the real estate industry has not fully embraced this group valuable clientele. The systems which realtors use even fall short in this area. Thankfully there are a few agencies in this area which have grown through the years and learned the local areas.
There are several near Disney for those who are still young at heart but need a break occasionally where they can relax with their peers. Here are some things to consider when looking for a community.
Budget- Keep in mind that there can be a balance between budget and privacy. Where a retirement home affords more privacy, a condo is cheaper and has lower maintenance that you have to take care of. Condos usually have lower utility bills as well.
Policies that do not affect you- For example visitation and having guests move in. You may not ever have younger residents “move in” with you. However, your neighbor may a guest try to become permanent. Who deals with that? What are the policies in place? Can your grandchildren stay for a few days? Some locations are rather strict on this.
What level of assistance is available- Although we all try to be healthy how close is assistance if we or one of our guests needs it? What was your experience like when entering the community if it was gated? Ask some local residents if they are satisfied with the facility as a whole. What if any interactions have the residents had with management? While walking the community do you see a list of activities posted?
Dog Friendly- Believe it or not this actually matters. Not only the communities view on pets but is the community equipped for it? Is there a dog park? Pet stations? If you do not like animals this still matters. In fact, it may matter even more.
Get to know the local area- how far to the local grocer, entertainment and medical treatment. What is the local traffic like? How will you commute? Is everything you want inside of the community? This is the best part of your life. You have earned the right to be treated respectfully and live with as much comfort and hassle free as possible.
